GAD/EJC Subject Sigma V2.0 Pro Level Gear and LED sequencer

Unit comes with:-


2 x Hyperbright Nav LED modules


2 x Hyperbright Nav Landing Lights LED modules


2 x Hyperbright Strobe LED modules


1 x Hyperbright Rotating LED module


2 x Hyperbright Adjustable Afterburner ring lights


1 x JST connector for the 3s cells input to lights


4 x Double ended Sigma to Rx cables


Turn your 6 or 7ch Tx into a 14ch Tx with only 2 or 3 switches to control up to 9 LED channels (7 nominal 2 jumperable) & up to 9 Servo channels (7 nominal 2 jumperable)


To be clear, you can have 9 on LED and 7 on servos OR 7 on LEDs and 9 on servos, the 2 jumperable channels can only work for LEDS OR SERVOS, not both, so you still have 14 added Sigma channels in use at any one time.


NOTES FOR USE (What aircraft can i use this unit on???)


Here we have 3 examples of what aircraft we have fitted it to!


1: Our new DC-3 (60" model) - Sigma set to default (out of the box with no adjustments) model Warbird (prop/warbird).


      Retracts set to mode 2 (seperated, for that delayed and deployment and retraction, real-feel)


      Navs, rotating lights, No strobe (not befitting of the aircrafts age), no engine lights used (to complex at that size) & landing lights


      Aux channnels - Servo slow selected to actuate the tow release cable when used as a tug (quite regularly)


      6 channel mode selected (as used on a 7ch Tx) so that we have another spare channel for flaps


2: Our up and coming TSR-2 90mm EDF - Sigma set to default EDF mode


    Retracts set to mode 3, doors open, gear down (seperated and timed) 2 set of doors close (nose doors and main secondary doors remain open)


    Gear up - all closed then open, gear goes up (seperated again and timed) , all doors close


    Dual Nav lights (flashing - mode 2), 2 x rotating lights, landing lights are switch selectable(not auto, as is 6ch mode where they come on as the gear goes down)


    2 x Afterburner rings


    Aux channels Servo slow selected for airbrakes.


   7 channel mode used


3: Mish Mash - We used a combination of settings on a Avonds Turbine F-15


    Mode - 2 retracts (doors open, gear down, doors closed - doors open, gear out, doors closed) on 'air valve' setting(no sweep, just end to end instantly)


   All the LED channels inc 2  x Hyperbright Afterburner rings (bespoke made with 160 LEDS)


   Aux channel set to ABS (Anti-lock breaking) on 'air valve setting'


   Servo rail jumper pulled to isolate the Sigma from the rest of the radio (turbine model using higher voltage than 5v - added safety feature)


It is also worth noting that as you have 4 model memories, the gear position is memorised, so as long as you select the model associated to the aircraft you are flying all the setting are saved, but more importantly, where your gear was set last time you used it, (this stops you switch on the model and it throwing itself on the floor because you have the gear switch in the wrong place!      ANOTHER ADDED SAFETY FEATURE!!!

Features:-

4 Model Memory - Fully programmable (3 presets + 1 random)

Gear to door sequencer - Fully programmable

7-9 Channel LED light sequencer (jumpable) 1/2 strobes, Nav lights, Landing lights

          1.Mode specific - EDF Afterburners (throttle position lower trigger)

                                         Engine exhausts (sequenced LED to exhaust pipes)

                                         Turbine Afterburner (throttle position higher trigger)

          2. Secondary strobe from jumpered channel, same for Nav lights.

          3. Strobes programmable from 1 to 3 flashes (and out of timing for secondary for that extra bit of realism)

          4. Nav lights settings (On, On-Off or On-Off left to right side to left etc.)

          5. Afterburner Led rings indepent circuits to work indepent of each other for that added realilsm at ' come on' - pulse in and out, also brightness adjust up to full throttle.

         6. Rotating light (most military and civila aircraft have them)

         7. Landing light (in 6ch mode will come one automatically with gear down, in 7ch model you can switch it on manually using the 3 pos switch selected)

4 Main channel pass-through (NO Y-leads required)

6ch Tx or 7ch TX selectable (as in you use 2 spares on 6ch or 3 spares on 7ch OR as we often do use 2 spares on 8h (FF9) and use the other channels for other things!

Fully programmable from your Tx

Requires only a 3s 500mah pack + for lighting circuit,

Power the Sigma from Rx via input rail or remove jumper for isolated control. (this includes being able to select whether you need ther servos ran from the sigma or thier own supply (Turbine models require this somtimes)

Built in ABS for air brakes selectable

Servos slow built in, selectable

Bomber turrent control

Retract offset so that in 2 or 3 leg config they do not raise or lower at the same time, again for added realism.

3 door sequencer settings.

3rd door option, as in drop all legs (jets mainly) but close 2 of the 3 doors (noseleg or similar)

 

Model specific pregrammed modes.


Model 1: EDF

Dual Channel Afterburners, controlled and smoothed from throttle channel. Pulsed and seperate, (as in they done not mirror each other and behave somewhat like the real thing).

Throttle trigger is about 1/2 throttle upwards.

Aux channel on servo slow. (setable from 1 - 3 seconds)


Model 2: Prop/Bomber

Bomb doors sequenced to bomb drop, so that you cannot drop the bomb until the doors are open, slowed and smoothed (3 pos switch)

3 channels assigned to engine exhausts for sequenced and pulsed through to high bright with pulsing from 6 - 12 cylinders.

Gun turret sweep becomes active once throttle is just open, super slow and smooth.

Model 3: Turbine

Dual Channel Afterburners, controlled and smoothed from throttle channel. Pulsed and seperate, (as in they done not mirror each other and behave somewhat like the real thing).

Throttle trigger is about 2/3 throttle upwards.

Aux channel is for A.B.S breaking via servo or airvalve, selectable for the efficiency of the braking system, from low to high.

Model 4: just a set of random settings to play with.

Used in all 3 Modes: Menu selectable and stored

Navigation lights - 2 Modes: solid on or 'on, off, on, off' quite slow. (up to 20 LEDS) (3 pos switch - centre - on)
NEW Added extra mode, where the navs will pass left to right
Strobe lights - 3 Modes: 1 Flash, 2 flashes, or 3 flashes with a gap between (3 pos switch - centre - on)
NEW Secondary strobe which is out of time with the others for that extra bit of realism.
Landing lights - on or off (3 pos switch - up - on)
(Same switch used for all lights)

Undercarriage sequencing 3 Modes:
Mode 1 : Standard - Doors open----Gear down, Gear Up---- Doors Closed.
Mode 2 : Cycled - Doors open ---- Gear Down ----Doors closes, Doors open---- Gear up ---- Doors closed.
Mode 3 : There are no doors, just a feed for the UC, NOT using the flight packs or BEC
This applies to both Air and DSR

Undercarriage timing 3 Modes:
Mode 1: 1 second between doors and gear
Mode 2: 2 seconds between doors and gear
Mode 3: 3 seconds between doors and gear.

Menus:


Note: only one (2 pos) switch is used for the U/C the sequencer takes care of everything.

Main Menu:

Reset sequencer in with Nav light switch in the ON position.

The menu system works very similarly to an ESC programming.

you will see 3 fast flashes, 1 long one, 3 fast ones.....then were in selection mode..

1 (Fast flash) Model Memory

2 flash - Plane Type

3 flashes - Nav light type

4 flashes - Strobe type

5 flashes - Gear sequencer type

6 flashes - Gear to door delay type.

7 flashes - Gear control type DSR or AIR (air has no delays on the door sweeps or undercariage, designed specifically for minimum air loss in operation. NEW

8 Flashes  - Tx type (If you have a 6ch Tx then it auto selects all controls onto 2 switches, example landing lights come on when gear is down, so no 3rd position on Tx required. NEW

1 long flash & 2 Short - RESET (allows you, if you need to reset the Sigma to its default settings) NEW

once the particular mode has been selected or entered, you will always see 1 long flash to signify this has been selected.

You can only set one setting per entry to the menu mode, as confusion soon sets in if not.

The sub modes are selected once entered into..

i.e

start menu...

1 flash (plane type menu) flip switch to down or off - long flash

In plane type menu

1 flash (EDF type)
2 flashes (Prop type)
3 flashes (Turbine type) flip switch to on up up:-

You selected to change to Turbine aircraft......

UPDATES:-

Sigma deos a switch check when you start it up, so if you have not put your U/C switch in the right place it will do nothing and NOT throw your aircraft on the floor. You will see a short warning flash, over and over again until you flip the switch. Sigma remembers the last position the U/C was in when you switched off.

Added 3rd door in sequencer. so that for example like our TSR 2 where all the doors open, the gear comes out, but only some of the doors close, leaving the nose leg and main outer doors open (or they would clout the legs)

Undercarriage sequencing 3 Modes:
Mode 1 : Standard - Doors open----Gear down, Gear Up---- Doors Closed.
Mode 2 : Cycled - Doors open ---- Gear down ----Doors close, Doors open---- Gear up ---- Doors closed.

NEW
Mode 3 : Cycled - All doors open ---- Gear down ---- Main doors close,  Main doors open---- Gear up ---- All doors closed. (NOTE: mode 3 removes the option to have turrets working in Warbird Mode)

Techincal Data for Sigma.

9 FET's channels for lights/LED's (2 of which are jumper selected)
9 Servo outputs (2 of which are jumper selected)
12v in (3s pack) Lighting power
5v in (Rx pack or BEC) Sigma/servo power (NOTE: it would be foolish to attempt to run the servos on the Sigma from just an ESC BEC, it will fail. Draw far to much current across the Sigma servos which are added flight ones. So fit a 5A BEC (about a fiver for one)

FET's rated at 5.1A per channel, however, if using anywhere near that, the board will need to be cooled.
Light Supply 5-25v, however, all our LEDS are designed to be ran at 3s (12v), 4s will burn LEDS

Sigma power use:- idle 120uA , everything running 200ma.

RX isolation jumper. For the leccy boys like us, we leave it connected so that the RX is being powered from the Sigma (or vice versa) from a BEC or RX pack.

For other models you can remove the jumper so that RX drives the Sigma from signalling, but the power rails are disconnected (for example turbines that have many systems on board. (you need a BEC or Rx pack to run all the Sigma goodies)

Updates in the board itself

Redesigned to allow direct connection of RX to Sigma, with the 4 flight channels hardwired directly out. So instead of loads of Y-leads to hook it, just simply plug in Rx one side, and connect your Ailerons, Elevator, throttle and rudder to the pins next to it. This keeps the wiring simple and tidy.

Also sourced HYPER bright LEDs for strobes and navs, which you can easliy see from a couple of thousand feet, utterly blinding in the workshop.

  1. Love my Sigma Review by R.Tolling

    Had my Sigma now for 3 months. It was a little weird to start with understanding all the features, but once i actually READ the manual, it can do so many things.

    I have it installed in a 89" scratch built Lancaster, moving turrets, engine lights, landing lights, sequenced gear doors for the mains.

    I have only had to call GAD once to get an understanding of how the turrets work, they were helpful and made it clear for me.

    Since it has been in service, it has never let me down, in fact i think it saved my aircraft when one gear servo went down and it isolated the power supply so i could land it safely.

    +5 for excellent product! will def use again.

    -1 for manual not being as clear as it should be (IMHO) for some of us non-electronic people.

    Overall - Excellent, will buy another for my next project!
